Meet the Team: Ellisa Mimlitsch LCSW




Finding a counselor can feel overwhelming and challenging, and rightly so. There are so many things to consider when finding a therapist to work with: insurance, location, availability, cost, specialties, etc. One of the most important parts of looking for a counselor is finding someone with whom you have some kind of rapport or connection.

What ages do you work with?

  • 18+

Who else do you enjoy and feel confident working with?


What is your approach to helping people? Do you have any specialties or trainings?

  • CBT-Learning how to test your negative thinking and make changes.

  • Motivational Interviewing, Insight Oriented therapy and Person-Centered approach. I strongly believe you can’t know where you are going until you understand where you came from. I find it extremely helpful in my sessions for the client “take me back” so I can better understand how you see your world and respond to it.

What can a client expect if they work with you?

  • Goal-oriented Sessions: I want to make sure my clients understand why they entered into therapy and have goals that they are clearly working towards. I also assign "light" homework for clients to practice what we're working on at home. I want my clients to get their money’s worth.

  • Directive Feedback. I believe that just listening and reflecting is not enough

  • I am animated and creative in my sessions. My sessions are not boring as I am fully engaged in each session with my clients. I use props and creative means to help clarify theory and help you reach your personal goals. I am colorful, professional and fun!

  • Couples: I use role playing, props and creative techniques to help my couples learn how to solve their own problems and develop new, more positive habits. Reflective Listening Skills are the foundations of my Couples Counseling Sessions then we build from there.

What do you like about being a counselor?

  • Change is possible and with the right amount of support and guidance, I can help my clients make the necessary changes to have a healthier life.

  • I truly love what I do!

If you could meet any person, who would it be and why?

  • Jim Carrey would be my answer. Despite growing up with a mother who struggled with clinical depression, he found a way through humor and laughter to help her cope. I identify with this so strongly, as humor and laughter can be helpful tools to help someone in need. I also really enjoy some of his comedic work.

What’s something unique about you?

  • I enjoy dressing up for my work. I feel a person’s sense of style comes through in their personality. It’s important for me to meet my clients dressed in a professional and fun manner. I enjoy accessorizing my style, I may be wearing a bright colored pair of pumps.
